Cypress Falls Park is a mere 2 minute walk from the edge of Cypress Park Estates. A few minutes more and you are amid lush forest vegetation almost dripping with moisture created by the mist from the falls as it drifts among the trees. This park is not for picnics. It consists of a variety of trails most of which are of a strenuous nature. The most attractive aspect of this park is the otherwordly atmosphere. This is especially so considering the quick transition from residential streets to narrow twisting paths along cool darkened ledges on rather steep hillsides.
The walk to/from the first falls takes no more than half an hour. Options for extended hikes of an hour or more are abundant. Much care must be taken to avoid being too close to cliff edges since in some cases the ground is not solid but made up of spongy material that could loosen very easily. Once you reach the bridge, #10, the climb becomes more difficult so be prepared to choose if the first falls should be your primary destination.
There is no signage for this park. Directions are as follows: West on Upper Levels Highway, take the Caulfield exit, make a right Westport, left on Woodgren Dr. and a right on Woodgren Pl., go to the end and you will see an entrance to the parking lot for the park just off to the left. Good Luck (bring a map). It is worth the effort. WARNING: If you are going alone always tell someone of your destination and expected time of return.
