Deep Cove is as much a concept as it is a location. Situated at the extreme eastern end of the North Shore it lies at the base of Mount Seymour Provincial Park. Even though the area is home to a number of communities, including Cove Cliff, Dollarton and Strathcona, Deep Cove is used for the area especially when non-residents are involved. There is no community in the lower Mainland with more of a mystique. Deep Cove is that place that seems forever shrouded in clouds and mists, getting the highest rainfall totals in the region. It is where two bodies of water meet, Burrard Inlet and Indian Arm. It has more recreational opportunities within reach than most other communities. Residents are very possessive of this image. All things considered it is one of my favourite destinations when getting away for a short while is the goal.
Indian Arm has a long history of its own as a recreational destination. In the early 1900's regular excursions plied these waters with holidayers or day trippers going to resorts "up the arm". These resorts no longer exist but general and dinner cruises are still an important part of some visitors' itineraries.
Cates Park which has its own page on this site is considered to be in the Deep Cove area.
